Granite is undoubtedly one of the most popular materials that people use for countertops. Denver granite countertops are hard, strong, and heat-resistant—and they can take a beating from the wear and tear your kitchen or bathroom countertop goes through on a daily basis. Granite countertops can also be affordable, so they can add great value to your kitchen or bathroom.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the reasons granite countertops have become so popular in today’s kitchens and bathrooms.
The Uniqueness of Granite
There is a huge variety of colors available in granite. Some granite countertops are almost black, whereas others are very light. There are blues, greens, pinks, beiges—and pretty much every color in between. You can find it speckled or nearly solid. Regardless of what color you want in your kitchen or bathroom, you will be able to find just the right color. Just make sure you pick a color you love. Your granite countertop will last for a very long time!
The Need for Sealants
Some granite countertops need a sealant and others don’t. If you don’t have to use a sealant, don’t! How will you know? You can use the towel test. Here’s how it works: Take a plain white or paper towel and soak it with water. Put it on your countertop for five minutes, then lift it up. Examine the area that was under the towel. If it is darker than the surrounding surface, you’ll need a sealant. If you can’t see a color change, you can skip the sealant.
Keeping Granite Countertops Clean
When you invest in a beautiful granite countertop, you want to make sure it looks nice—and lasts for a long time. Be sure to wipe down counters daily—even if they don’t look dirty, which is often the case for granite. You can just use a microfiber rag that is dampened with water (do not use alcohol on granite). Be sure to wipe up spills as they happen.
Weekly cleaning with a cleaning product specifically designed for granite is also a good idea. Avoid using harsh chemicals and cleaning products that are not designed for granite because this can damage your countertops over time.
