What to Look for When Buying Cabinets
By HTI - September 28, 2015

When considering purchasing cabinets for your new home or remodel, it is important to do your homework on what may be one of the most costly components of your project. Nowadays, there are hundreds of styles, wood species, and it can be overwhelming if you are not sure what to look for. There are absolutely quality cabinets that can be found for every budget, and the more expensive products do not necessarily equal a higher quality product.
One fantastic resource to look to is KCMA, the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. This is a non-profit origination that administers nationally recognized performance standards for cabinets. They perform a rigorous battery of tests simulating years of typical household use to cabinets. Tests are performed by approved third-party independent laboratories. Samples for testing are selected in an unannounced visit to the manufacturing plant. Products that pass these standards are then given the KCMA Certification Seal that is stamped on the inside of cabinets. There is a complete list of certified cabinet manufactures that can be found on their website.
When it comes down to it, the value of your property has a direct relation to the product you put in it, and this information can help guide you in the right direction to make the best selection.
